the best day 2 blog post

 Start of the Day

“The early bird gets the worm!”

What a great motto to begin this blog post, as for many of us, our day got off to an early start! … that early start … being 3:00 AM. Jetlag is not fun, especially when we’ve got big big maths to learn that very day. Those of us with crippling caffeine addictions satiated ourelves with several cups of coffee as the class filtered their way to the bus stop to see campus for the first time.

Led by Professor Berliner, we shimmied our way through the somewhat strange combination of very thick, beautiful snow and some rather unsavory slush to arrive at our classroom. We subsequently fumbled our way through getting the desks in the right positions and met Anna, who advertised her friend’s new bistro, Beugró.

While Prof. Berliner gathered critical classroom materials, we learned about every state (and country) our classmates are from with Jerry. We covered an intro to proofs for the first day of class, and touched on the Division Algorithm as well.

Subsequently, due to our undying loyalty to Anna, we got lunch at Beugró with a majority of the class joining. Kemble got a toasted soup with cheesy toast, Gavin got Duck leg with noodles, and Henry and Gordie both got the Goulash.

After Lunch

We had Hungarian language class with Emese. We learned how to pronounce Hungarian sayings like “Gyere, Gyuri, a gyufagyárba, gyertyát gyújtsunk” and mastered a song about melting icicles, with ample time to show off our animal noise-making skills. Bence also told us more about stuff to see in Budapest, like the Children’s train, the ice rink, and some old caves! When we left class, it was snowing hard, a rare occasion in Budapest.

After getting out of classes, the students split up across the city, finding spots where they could best do their homework assigned to them for the day, until finding a spot to eat for dinner. Gordie, Kemble, Morgan, and Henry managed 3 of the problems in the hotel room, but eventually decided to leave the rest to complete while in a more rested state.

Separately, Gavin, along with 3 other students went to dinner with Professor Berliner, ate at Király100 Gastro Corner after taking the oldest metro line on the continent! On our way back we took a stroll through Fashion Street to see all of the beautiful decorations before finally returning back to the hotel.

Quite a few students ended up showing up for office hours, as people discussed our very first problem set. Eventually, everyone scurried off to a good night's rest.

That's all. Not much else to say. Until next time,
