Welcome to Budapest 2026!
Sziastok!
Welcome to the blog for BUDAPEST 2026!!
We are only FOUR days away from leaving for Budapest. This is my 5th time taking a group of students to Budapest, and same as last year - I am just as nervous and excited!
On January 3rd, 24 students will join me and Jerry Sniderman (my uncle, overall fun and funny guy, and investment whiz) on a crazy 27-day adventure. We will do bunch of number theory, eat some amazing food, and do quite a bit of cultural exploration.
My hope is that the students not only grow as mathematicians and quantitative communicators and thinkers, but that they develop new and lasting friendships along with an appreciation for how they are a part of a truly global community that reaches well beyond Northfield and the United States. These are the experiences that will be taken with them into their professional and personal lives well after they graduate from St. Olaf.
I trust that the students are enjoying their breaks! I am finishing up my fall semester grades, getting ready for January, and enjoying some family time myself.
Please return here on a daily basis and read about all our adventures. The students will be taking turns, by room, creating posts about their activities and highlights each day. We look forward to sharing our experiences with you. Please feel free to comment, ask questions, and if you're a little older like me, possibly learn some new Gen Z lingo.
To the parents and other family/friend support networks for the students: THANK YOU for giving your student the opportunity and support (financial/emotional/encouragement) to participate in this adventure.
Boldog Új Évet! (Happy New Year!)
