OUR AMAZING DAY THREE IN BUDAPEST
DAY THREE
Szia! Hello!
Snow and Swimming
Day 3 in Budapest! After heavy snow last night, we woke up to a snowy city.
Grace and Sydney got up very early, 6:15am, to go swimming in an outdoor pool, Császár-Komjádi Uszoda, on the Buda side of the city! The trek over the bridge to the tram station was slushy as the sidewalks had not been shoveled yet. Swimming outside was fun! Although the air was cold, the pool was warm.
As a city not commonly covered in snow, we saw people getting very creative with snow scrapers throughout the day, including a toy plastic shovel, a piece of cardboard, a dustpan, a broom, and bare hands.
After finishing breakfast, we made our way to school! Once there, we started with math. Today was less proof writing heavy, but proving characteristics of the Greatest Common Divisor was crucial. Berliner said himself he covered too much material, but overall many of us thought today’s material was more doable than yesterday’s.
Then off to lunch! Some, craving a quick meal familiar to home, headed to McDonald’s, where we found some fun new items, like the Pork McFarm.
Others enjoyed Asian Street Food. Kaylin, Liz, Grace, and Savannah went looking for a cafe. After a strikeout due to our number one choice being closed, we enjoyed sandwiches and Hungarian stuffed flatbreads at La Lune Cafe. The food was so delicious that we ended up speed walking back to class just in time for Hungarian class with Emese.
Class: Hungarian
Greeted with Túró Rudi chocolates, class was off to a great start with more singing from yesterday. Then, we learned common phrases and numbers! Class ended with learning how to introduce ourselves with our age, place of residence, nationality, and languages spoken. We became rich with coins that no longer are used–worth 1 forint–after we practiced counting them.
Studying
When returning to the hotel, the hunt continued for the best group study spot. After doing homework for a few hours, groups went for dinner and had kebabs or lángos.
Dinner
Meanwhile, Grace, Kemble, Erika, and Clyde left soon after to go to dinner with Professor Berliner and Jerry. They had a lovely dinner, at Paprika Vendéglő, topped off with some chestnut mousse dessert. We ended the night with Berliner in office hours and recorded ourselves in Hungarian to send it off to Emese.

We are finally settling into our routines here in Budapest and are so excited for our first weekend coming up!
Jó éjszakát!
–Sydney, Grace, Morgan, and Kaylin
