Day 9: Welcome Back to Today's Episode of Number Theory with Professor Berliner

Hello again to our lovely fans! We know you’ve been anxiously awaiting to hear what 24 St. Olaf Math students have been up to…

Well, we started off the day with a guest lecture. Prof. Fazekas from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music taught us about the history of Hungarian music from the classics to new pop.

Speaking of Hungarian pop, Henry is still wondering what the pop song he heard “one night, and then again the next night” that goes like “eso eso eso” in Hungarian. Despite Emese’s lessons, he still can’t decipher what they’re saying, and neither can Prof. Fazekas, who is Hungarian. If any of you find out, please contact Henry.

After this, several group members stopped for lunch at the famous New York Cafe. Was it worth $30 to get a plate of pasta and take pictures? We’ll let you decide…

Then we had our math lesson where we learned how to divide numbers and tell what their remainder is. You might be wondering, didn’t you learn that in 3rd grade already? Bad news. We knew nothing back then.

After class, a few of us visited St. Stephen’s Basilica. Worth every penny to see a 1000 year old preserved hand. The view was cool too.

After this, people divided into groups to go to dinner, explore, or study. Some of us worked together in the hotel. Today’s problem set was a doozy. Good thing Gordie was able to soothe us with his piano tunes during office hours. When asked why he brought his piano, he said that “I play piano every day, why wouldn’t I bring it?” Really, it was dumb to even ask that question, of course the piano was necessary.

Collin decided that he should drink multivitamin yellow juice during office hours to get an extra boost. But don’t get this confused with the orange juice, which is actually colored more yellow than the yellow juice.

Many people decided on different places to eat dinner, while some stayed and finished homework in the hotel.

One of your blog writers for today, Savannah, went and played pickup soccer 30 minutes south of the inner city. She’s met several other expat students from around Europe, many who are studying in the Erasmus program. These students also like to make fun of Savannah when they call their beloved sport soccer instead of football.

Thanks for tuning in to today’s episode of Number Theory with Prof. Berliner. We hope you enjoyed the show.

With love,

Savannah, Emily, and Liz
